MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS
MEDICAL PROOF: Fill out the attached documents (page 18 and 19 of this document) and return it to the
organizers before the 10th of August 2009.
HEMATOCRITE CONTROL: All athletes participating should bring their medical certificate regarding their
health status, signed and stamped by an official medical doctor or an official medical institution. Every athlete
must bring his own hematocrite test report, made no more than 7 days before the event and give it to the
organizers. This test has been done by an official medical doctor or an official medical institution. The official
race laboratory will make the hematocrite test with all the athletes 24 hours before the start of the event. The
result of the hematocrite test has to be sent in electronically form to the IUTA. In case the athlete fails to present
the medical certificate and has to undergo hematocrite test, he/she may undergo at his/her own expenses the
medical check-up conducted by medical doctors responsible in the race.
MEDICAL SERVICE AND INSURANCE: No athlete may be allowed to participate in the race without
presenting evidence of medical approval (local or home country). The doctor in charge in the race has the right
to pull out an athlete from the race for medical reasons. The first aid assistance will be provided on site, free of
charge. All Athletes participating in the championship must have health insurance valid in Mexico and we
recommend that their support crew also have health insurance. The insurance must cover all medical
assistance expenses in case of illness, accident or personal injury during your stay in Mexico. The insurance
should also cover the same happenings during the race. You may arrange the insurance at your home (country)
ANTI DOPING CONTROL: The official anti doping control will be on request any time during the race for the
official Doctor of the race. The medical team of the race (Dr. Oscar Salas Fraire, University of Nuevo Leon) will
collect every day before and after the stages a sample of urine and store on ice. In addition, body composition
with a body composition analyzer will be determined at the same time. These measurements will be harmless,
need a few minutes and do not bother the athlete in the race. In case of a suspicion of manipulation during the
race, urinary samples will be transferred to the laboratory for immediate analysis. Athletes not following this
directive are suspect to manipulation and the race director will withdraw the athlete from the competition.
Results of measurements in the 2006 race serve as base line to detect manipulations (increase in muscle mass
or plasma volume).
